Instructions
For the dough:
  1. In a food processor whisk the butter and the sugar until pale
  2. Change to a pastry hook then add the rest of ingredients and mix to form a dough.
For the filling:
  1. Lightly dust flour on work top then roll the dough to form a large square, not too thick
  2. Take the butter then brush over the pastry.
  3. Now sprinkle with the dates, orange peel, chocolate and cinnamon. you can use any kind of dried fruit for this recipe, I just love dates.
  4. Slowly roll up the dough tightly, like the photo, then cut it with string about 1″ thick. You can use a sharp knife if you want but my method is much neater.
  5. Have your large lined greased cake tin ready.
  6. Arrange one slice in the tin, then over lap the second on,e like the photo, until they are all done. (I forgot to take a photo before I put them in the oven)
  7. Brush with egg or milk, then bake in a preheated oven on middle shelf, gas mark 4 / 180c for 30 mins. as soon as you see the cake ring has lovely golden colour take it out of the oven.
  8. Leave in the tin for 5 mins then transfer to a wire rack to cool down.
  9. Mix the icing sugar with water then lift with a spoon and drizzle over the cake.
  10. Place few chocolate drop on top of the icing and leave to set. Enjoy with your choice of drink.
