Mushroom and Onion Canapes

Mushroom and Onion Canapes

Mushroom and Onion canapes. They are tasty and easy to make, and also a little unusual to make and they are served warm. You get to taste the flavours of the strong cheese and the woody aroma of the mushrooms. I like them a lot – we all like to show off our canapés and here’s one of my favourites. I like to serve this specifically when I’m making a BBQ as they go well together, and they make my guests very welcome of course.
This is a lovely idea to serve straight away and let the guests talk about it, I don’t know about you, but to me it’s really important to give any guests something as soon they arrive (other than drinks of course!) so this allows you some time to finish preparing the rest of the food. I always ask my friends what they think of the food, just so I know how to improve anything,  This is now we learn.

I love making canapés as they are always quite fun and something to be proud of at a function or dinner party, as well as something informal. I really hope you will make and like this recipe.

Instructions
  1. In a large pan, fry the onion with the butter until nice and brown, and keep aside.
  2. Take a 12 hole muffin pan and put one tablespoon of water in each section then place each mushroom in a section.
  3. Spoon one teaspoon of the cooked onions on top of the mushrooms. Preheat the oven to gas mark 5/190c and cook for 20 mins.
  4. Place one small piece of cheese on top of the onions, season with pepper and oregano and a drizzle of olive oil, and then put back in the oven and cook for further 5 mins, or until you see the cheese start to melt.
  5. Take out from the muffin pan and sit them on a paper towel - this way they will absorb any excess water from the pan.
  6. Get your favourite plate, and have ready 12 crispy mini lettuce leaves cut to fit inside cup cake cases, and place the mushroom inside the case, on top of the lettuce. I used iceberg as I did not have gem
Recipe Notes

The best way to serve these canapés is to make sure the lettuce is very cold and the mushrooms are warm.
